Present Indicative

Present Indicative Tense 

The present indicative tense is a simple present tense and is the first tense that you need to learn. It is simple and used for telling what happens in the present or near future. Make sure you understand how verbs work before starting this lesson.

Yo hablo. I speak. 
Tú bailas. You dance. 
Ellas comen. They eat. 
Nosotros vamos a la tienda. We are going to the store. 

 

-AR Verbs 

Singular		Plural
Yo	-o	Nosotros	-amos
Tú	-as	Vosotros	-áis
El Ella Usted	-a	Ellos Ellas Ustedes	-an

 

-ER and -IR Verbs

Singular		Plural
Yo	-o	Nosotros	-emos/-imos
Tú	-es	Vosotros	-éis/-ís
El Ella Usted	-e	Ellos Ellas Ustedes	-en

 

Here are a few examples of regular verbs in present tense.

Hablar – to speak
Yo	hablo I speak	Nosotros	hablamos we speak
Tú	hablas you speak	Vosotros	habláis you speak
El, Ella, Usted	habla he, she speaks	Ellos, Ellas, Ustedes	hablan they/you speak

 

Comer – to eat
Yo	como I eat	Nosotros	comemos we eat
Tú	comes you eat	Vosotros	coméis you eat
El, Ella, Usted	come he, she eats	Ellos, Ellas, Ustedes	comen they/you eat

 

Escribir – to write
Yo	escribo I write	Nosotros	escribimos we write
Tú	escribes you write	Vosotros	escribís you write
El, Ella, Usted	escribe he, she writes	Ellos, Ellas, Ustedes	escriben they/you write
